Refuge

2nd Year

Water
Brief:

Design a place of Refuge in the city:

A wellness spa striving to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor, incorporating nature for health benefits. It’s somewhere for anyone and everyone to go and forget about their burdens and stress of everyday life with many opportunities to better yourself. A place of  calm and quiet in the busy city that is Sheffield.

Site analysis

The Green Room, currently a bar, has held many businesses over the years. The most recent renovation took place in 2022 when Green Room updated both their interior and exterior décor. The building sits on Devonshire Street in the heart of Sheffield's city center surrounded by endless shops, bars and restaurants. I used Digimaps to conduct some research on the demographics in the area giving me a good insight into to who would mainly use the building and how the regeneration would effect them. I also created a small survey about town and and Devonshire Street that I got my family and friends to complete, majority of their views were negative proving town needs regenerating. By adding a place of refuge it is the perfect way to improve peoples' thoughts on it.

proposed floorpans

Here are the proposed ground and first floor plans made using Revit. They show all the windows, doors and furniture. I have also created a schedule of accommodation to go with them allowing you to easily see what each room is used for.
