Samaritans Workplace
2nd Year

BRIEF:
Redevelop the first floor of the Samaritans office, based on Queens Road, to enhance their operational capabilities. Additionally provide a more congenial environment for volunteers to meet and debrief before, during and after shifts. Currently the Queens Road office only has room for 2 people to take calls at any one time, this problem needs to be solved with the client specifying up to 5 soundproof call stations.

As Samaritans is a charity the budget for this project is tight therefore, I want to minimize costs by reducing the number of walls I move / knock down. Additionally, I won’t be building any walls allowing more of the budget to be spent on important products such as soundproof pods. A main focus is the communal area, at the moment there isn’t enough seating for all the people occupying the building. I want to combat this and create a welcoming environment where they can relax and talk to one another, consequently encouraging the volunteers to spend more time in the building with one another rather than just answering calls.
